“As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him. Matthew 20:29–34

Its amazing that these blind men knew who was walking past them – they had heard the crowd and probably gleamed from all chatting and noise that someone important was amoungst the crowd. They figured out that it was Jesus.

These 2 men were blind beggers. Outcasts. The low of society. Yet they had heard of Jesus and recognised that he was teh Messiah. Had they been told that or in their heart did they sense this??? Did God reveal it to them??? Could they feel the power and love of Jesus?

They called out to Jesus, not just calling out Jesus Jesus, but calling Him “Son of David” – calling Him Messiah and Lord.

The crowd, unbelievingly shhhhed them. Here is an opportunity for a miracle and healing, for a total life transformation and the crowd following Jesus shhhh the men. Did they not want to see them healed? Did they not think Jesus would care? Would this be an interuption to their own time with Jesus? Did they not care themselves?

The crowd around us can sometimes try to hush our zeal and love for God. They tell us to “not be so spiritual” when we read our Bible or pray or worship. They try to quieten us as we share the gospel or pray for someone by telling us it isnt appropriate and it is forcing our religion.

But the blind men shouted all the more! Oh i love this line! What a great example! They never gave up but pursued Jesus even more and louder. They longed for his attention and were not deterred.

And Jesus heard them. He turned aside and focused on them and talked to them. He asked what did they want him to do for them. they asked for to be healed. Jesus had compassion on them and healed them right away. yay!

The men responded by following Jesus.
