Lost tv-shows

its been ten lovely years since LOST first premiered at Comic Com.  to commemorate the upcoming 10-year anniversary of the show’s broadcast premiere (on Sept. 22, 2004), ABC’s Comic-Con booth hosted this special video featuring series bosses Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, whose messages bookend a cavalcade of highlights from the show’s run.

a fortnight ago we had an amazing Carnival Night at church for our Daughters women’s ministry.  It was a fun night, themed with red and white and carnivalness, with a show comprising of 5 minute “how to” teachable skills.  How to arrange flowers, craft pom poms, bake truffles, tie a scarf etc.  our team all dressed for the occasion with a few clowns, a gypsy scarf woman and myself, the ringmaster.  during the intermission the audience got to play carnival games, learn to juggle, use the photo booth and try the truffles that we had just demonstrated on the stage.  as women we love any excuse to come together and connect and our Carnival Night : How 2 in 5 was a raging success!

i’ve had some unexpected FROZEN time… aka Evangeline has had the flu last week (thankfully not the dreaded vomit bug that has gone around our mums group!) and so we’ve had lots of snuggle time and watched Frozen at least 3 times.  it may be 4.  good thing i love it.  i think i have a Kristof crush.

have been loving this series by Elevation Church (Steven Furtick) called Crash The Chatterbox.  Our Mumstime group have been watching the church series in our morning group and then we have started watching it, and the dvd series, in alternative weeks, at the best housegroup in the world.   Steven is an engaging preacher and both groups have taken away massive amounts of challenge and encouragement.

this is the youth group i got saved in, 20 years on.  we met again and celebrated our friends 20th wedding anniversary over the school holidays in napier.  20 years is a long time.  some of these people i have reconnected with in real life over the years, but some of them, it had been the full 20 year quota of time between conversation.   but throw us back together and it was like no time had passed.  it was glorious.  here we are with our spouses and kids, changed and living our dreams, yet it was like no time had been between us.  it was glorious.

Bethel Music - You Make Me Brave cover art

After the immense success of both Tides and Tides Live, Bethel Music will release a third full-length album in under 8 months’ time on April 22. The new release, You Make Me Brave, is taken from a three-day women’s conference held at The Civic in Redding, CA with Bethel, and features several worship leaders including Jenn Johnson, Kari Jobe, Steffany Frizzell Gretzinger, Kristene DiMarco, Amanda Cook and Leah Valenzuela. “I’m more excited about this than anything that we’ve ever done,” says Jenn Johnson, who serves as Bethel’s Senior Worship Pastor along with her husband Brian. “I also don’t think this project is just for women. I think this is a message for the church.”

totally loved spending friday at the zoo with my short ones and mum who is up from the south island.  we havent been to the zoo for about 3 years so it was wonderful to see new exhibits and a whole new NZ native wildlife section, complete with kiwis, tuatara, kea, weka, lizards and other incredible birds and creatures.   we also got to see the new tasmainan devils – who have just recently arrived from Oz and hear the keepers encounter talk.   all in all a wonderful day and a great reminder about how amazingly powerful and creative God is.

dont they look fabulous!  the school made it a great event with special celebrity guest michael murphy whom many of the kids may not have known before hand (he was runner up in the first season of NZ Idol) but who left with a lot of (screaming) fans!  He did an amazing job and has such a brilliant voice! in total there were 10 kids that got shaved, including 2 girls, and then 7 teachers got shaved.  we are so incredibly proud of caleb and his friend, and the other kids, and in total the school have raised over $7000 for the child cancer foundation.

caleb camp 10154223_749530821738141_392689355_n camp 1

this week my son and hubby have been on an adventure at Motutapu Island.  on tuesday they went by ferry to the island and then walked 6km to camp.  most of the kids are in dorm rooms (see middle photo) though some are camping in tents.  they have had an amazing range of activities – sailing, snorkelling, high wire, coastal exploration, orientation etc and had a camp concert last night.  today they do the 6km walk out and then ferry ride home.

FULL-HOUSE

while the boys have been away adventuring us girls have had “girls week”.  the rules for girls week are eat bacon, watch girl things on tv and snuggle lots.  its being delightful.  i was very very very excited to discover FULL HOUSE episode 1 on tv last week.  its on saturdays tv2 at 5pm.  from the beginning!  yes!  so we have watched it every day.  and loving it.  its creating new memories and bonding.  my daughter even wrote about it for her school time capsule (to be opened in 25 years)!

on sunday we were so blessed to have the incredible Winkie Pratney at The River for both services and then extra blessed to have him at SAS for our Monday sessions.  Winkie is a chemist by heart (and has his own lab) and as well as being passionate on revival and God and having spent his life communicating biblical truth to people and studying the Bible and Revival (he is a contributor and editor of the Revival Bible) he also is passionate about health and wellbeing.  He gave us 9 Reasons You Need To Be Giving and Receiving Hugs Everyday in the context of loving our neighbour and wellbeing.

#1 Oxytocin is a neurotransmitter that acts on the limbic system, the brain’s emotional centre, promoting feelings of contentment, reducing anxiety and stress, and even making mammals monogamous. It is the hormone responsible for us all being here today. You see this little gem is released during childbirth, making our mothers forget about all of the excruciating pain they endured expelling us from their bodies and making them want to still love and spend time with us. New research from the University of California suggests that it has a similarly civilising effect on human males, making them more affectionate and better at forming relationships and social bonding. And it dramatically increased the libido and sexual performance of test subjects. When we hug someone, oxytocin is released into our bodies by our pituitary gland, lowering both our heart rates and our cortisol levels. Cortisol is the hormone responsible for stress, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

Every Story Whispers His Name…

Written for children ages four and up, The Jesus Storybook Bible tells the one story underneath all the stories of the Bible and points to the birth of a child, the Rescuer, Jesus. Complete with 44 Bible stories, The Jesus Storybook Bible paints a beautiful portrait of Jesus and invites children to see that he is not only at the center of God’s great story of redemption—he is at the center of their story too. Children and adults alike will be captivated by the beautifully written narrative and the original and unique illustrations by accomplished artist Jago. Lloyd-Jones’ powerful gift of storytelling draws the reader into the greatest adventure of all time in an exciting page-turner that kids (and adults) find hard to put down.  JESUS STORYBOOK BIBLE WEBSITE

today was my 2nd session this year doing bible in schools.  i am Evangeline’s teacher again and have a lovely lovely class.  this mornings lesson was about feeding the 5000 and along with a lego movie (to keep the boys happy) i read from our Jesus Storybook Bible.  i love the perspective it has and the warmth and imagination that it conveys.  its a real challenge for me being a BIS teacher – i have never felt called to kids min and its a real step out of the comfort zone.  but its fun at the same time to be able to tell people – of any age and size – about how great and good our God is.  and i got the most delicious hugs today after class!
