Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanour, by love, by faith, by integrity. Stay at your post reading Scripture, giving counsel, teaching. And that special gift of ministry you were given when the leaders of the church laid hands on you and prayed—keep that dusted off and in use. Cultivate these things. Immerse yourself in them. The people will all see you mature right before their eyes! Keep a firm grasp on both your character and your teaching. Don’t be diverted. Just keep at it. Both you and those who hear you will experience salvation.  1 Timothy 4:11-16

SPEAKER: Tricia Lovejoy – Using our Spiritual Gifts @ JustONE Virtual Conference at LEADING AND LOVING IT

teach other people with our lives

using spiritual gifts

guarding our character

remain faithful to the call that God has given us

Romans 12:6 – in His grace God has given each of us different gifts for doing things well

a unique ability to do certain things well

be content with the gifts that God has given us

we can look at other peoples gifts and want what they want

and we can be tempted that our gift and our life isn’t special or useful

change the way we think about who we are and what we have to offer

we may never stand on stage and lead worship

but we may have organisational skills that benefit our families, our church, our ministry

(***my goodness organisational skills are such a gift that i appreciate!  i love people that can organise!)

our spiritual gifts are meant to add value to the people around us

God did not give us spiritual gifts for our own benefit but for the benefit of others

why do we have them?

why does God give them to us?

Ephesians 4:11-16 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,  to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

it helps the other parts grow – this is the WHY – so that the church is healthy and whole and built up in love

when we use our gifts we have the ability to lead our churches to spiritual maturity, creating churches that are healthy, growing and full of love

lets use our gifts

if we have the gift of leadership use it to influence people into godly living

if we have the gift of faith lets help people stand strong in their loyalty to God in the trying times of life

if we have the gift of organisation lets make the ministries of our churches better, more effective, more efficient,

if we have the gift of encouragement, lets use our words to inspire confidence in young believers or challenge other people to use their gifts too

look for the needs within your church and then discover fresh ways to use your gift mix to meet those needs

think outside the box about how and where you use your gifts

don’t negate the gift that God has given you and limit how He can use you

maybe you’re not an extravert so being on a greeter team is a scary thing, but if you have the gift of administration you can organise the details of the team

maybe a room full of children is the scary thing, but you may have the gift of leadership and can recruit volunteers

don’t neglect your gifts

use them

build the church

celebrate the way that God has gifted you

be a living example in using of gifts – it will inspire others around you to step out in their own gifts
