And in the end, what we dwell on is what we become. Where we camp, is where we live and die. Louie Giglio

Our perspective — the way we interpret what’s happening around us — can make or break us in any given situation. Our perspectives shape us, how we think, how we engage with people, how we action in our every day.   Perspective creates opportunity to grow and opportunity to step out, or how it can hinder our progress and restrict us.

Clues to what type of perspective we have is in some of the phrases we regularly say or think.  If your perspective leans to the negative you may not even be aware of it. Thinking the worst can be second nature after years of doing it. But it can be influencing how you live life and keeping you from getting the best out of it.

A negative perspective says:

I can’t

I will never

I could never

That always happens to me

That never happens for me

That’s not possible

It’s language is negative and limiting.

It’s reactive vs proactive,  seeing the bad in people and in situations.

A optimistic perspective says:

I can

I will

I will try

It’s going to be okay

Let’s keep going

It’s language is positive and overcoming.  It is responsive and proactive, choosing to see the good in people and situations.

A faith filled perspective says:

I can do all things through Christ

I am more than a conqueror

With God nothing is impossible

Positive perception says that failure is part of learning, that we can do hard stuff,

We need to turn down our negative self talk and make intentional decisions to transform our perspective, from the inside out.

God is calling us to have an enlarged perspective of His faithfulness and power as we step into a new year, to be aware of His ableness vs our own limitations and vs what the world may say.

God sometimes has a totally different perspective than us.

His challenge for us is for us to align our perspective with His, to see things from His vantage point.

We can begin again and change the way we think.  Changing the way we think sets us on a new road that trusts more, dares more, loves more and lives more.

I believe that our lives tell a story.

They tell a story of a great hero, a rescuer, who loves with a great love and does amazing exploits to prove that, despite the circumstances and the obstacles, overcoming and courageous, determined and kind, wise and powerful.

Our lives tell the story of Jesus.

My life tells His story.

In my ordinary life i am a demonstration of His reality and His power and His grace.

He is my greatest hero.  my rescuer.  my redeemer.

He loves me with a great love and died on the cross as the greatest exploit to save me.

despite the circumstances, the obstacles, my rebellion

He prevails.

He is the hero.

He uses my life to show His love, to show His reality, to show His grace.

That His love never fails.

That He makes all things beautiful.

That as far as the east is from the west He removes our sins from us.

That He makes us His.

That He loves us first.

My story has had some ups and downs.  I have rebelled, strayed, cooled, disappointed.  I have loved, served, being faithful.

But constantly, He is.

Constantly, He will be.

“Our mess is the canvas on which God paints His story of redemption.” -Louie Giglio

I want my life to tell a good story.  A story that reveals His greatness and goodness.  A story that is raw and powerful and that compels others to live for Jesus. I want my story to engage with people and draw them in to hear HIS heart.

My life is being written now.  I am writing my life. The pages of my past are written in pen but the pages of my future are yet unformed.

By my choices i am “picking my path” (loved those books as a child!)

By my choices i am choosing to follow with the hero, or to walk my own way.

but i am confident of this one thing, that i am loved.  that i am called.  that i am forgiven.

Even if the red pen is used in my life story, His promise is that He will use all things for the good of those who love Him, for His glory, for His fame, for His story.

He is the hero.  He is the main character.

It is all about Him.

He is! Hand ALL cares over to him! He is strong and has so much love for you! He says I AM.

Louie Giglio writes about when God revealed His name to Moses as I AM. God said, literally, My name is I am that I am!

Giglio writes, “God was telling Moses: I AM the center of everything. I AM running the show. I AM the same every day, forever. I AM the owner of everything. I AM the Lord. I AM the Creator and Sustainer of life. I AM the Savior. I AM more than enough. I AM inexhaustible and immeasurable. I AM God.

In a heartbeat, Moses knew God’s name – and something more. He finally knew his. If God’s name is I AM, Moses’ name must be I am not. I am not the center of everything. I am not in control. I am not the solution. I am not all-powerful. I am not calling the shots. I am not the owner of anything. I am not the Lord.

That’s my name, too. And yours…I am not, but He knows my name.

I am not, but He pursued me in His love. I am not, but I have been purchased and redeemed.

I am not, but I have been invited into The Story.

I am not, but I know the Creator of the universe.

I am not, but I know I AM!”

What a privilege we have to know this eternal God!

Live under His authority.  Surrender to God’s authority and engage in God’s plan.

Sparkling Disco Ball -we had for Proms

Imagine a mirror “disco” ball in the dark. Not very impressive, is it?

You and I are not very impressive either. But when the brilliant light of God illuminates our lives, suddenly intense beams of light burst in every direction, and all can get a taste of the greatness and grandeur of God as He shines through our lives.

When God Shines upon His church, we become a dazzling testimony to His awesome radiance.  We may think we are too small, but with God it is just a matter of the His light. Don’t underestimate God’s power to use us if we are willing to reflect His light.

Louie Giglio said, “Passion is the degree of difficulty we are willing to endure to achieve the goal.” Jesus said, “Whoever has been forgiven much, loves much.”
Whatever our passions, it should be our goal to shine for Jesus in every pursuit.

There are so many ways to read the Word of God. Plans.  Studies.  Commentaries.  Surface.  Depth.  Paper or digital?

Despite the options and the styles important thing is that your find your own rhythm and that you JUST DO IT.  That you read it, not to check off a tick box or get a gold star, but that you read it to hear the voice and words of God.

The Bible is God breathed, God written, God inspired.  His words to you are life, breath, hope, peace, guidance, challenge, personal.

Recently I finished reading Louie Giglio’s book, I am not but I know I am.

i adore Louie, he is a master wordsmith and his evident love for Jesus so radiates through every word, written or spoken.

In the book, Louie Giglio shares something called the One Word Bible Study method. It is an intriguing way to look at verses in the Bible in which you prayerfully meditate over ONE word of a verse each day (yes, just ONE word for a day) until God reveals His message and power through that ONE word.

Louie demonstrates by using John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and WOW i loved every perspective and revelation.

At our church, The River, last night our speaker Thomas Adams challenged us to take Psalm 34 and read a verse every day.

Just one verse.

To READ IT, CHEW IT, PRAY IT, DO IT.

I will bless the Lord at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make its boast in the Lord;
The humble shall hear of it and be glad.
Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt His name together.
Psalm 34:1-3 #Ps34Challenge

I’ll be ONE WORDing my way through my daily verse, ears open to hear God’s personal words to me.

Watch over the next few days for other ways to read the Word of God and hear His voice…

“There is an anchor for the soul at the cross of Christ, and it is saying to you today, ‘I love you.’ Yes, there is freedom but I have never lost control. It is saying to you, ‘I will take the worst and use it for eternal good.’ It is saying to you, ‘I am painting on a canvas bigger than you can see or understand,’ and it’s saying to you, ‘I understand.’ That cross is saying, ‘I understand.’ And when this stuff happens, we want to run away from God and be made at God and hate God. But when you look at the cross, you can’t because you realize and you can’t stop with the question we all want to ask, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ Or if you are a believer, ‘God why are you letting this happen to me?’ When you look at the cross, another thought emerges and the thought is, ‘Jesus, this happened to you. What’s happening to me, happened to you. You know about pain. You went through loss. You suffered death. You were mistreated. You were rejected. Everything in my life, good and bad, was all put on you.”  ― Louie Giglio

It’s the greatest story ever told. Completely unforeseen, yet long awaited was the voice of God breaking through the darkness and four hundred years of silence with the cry of a baby. And not just any baby, the gift of God. God’s people, having waited generations for their Creator to reveal Himself, never would have imagined that rescue and redemption would come in the simple, vulnerable form of a child, a baby born under the radar and into the chaos-announced by twelve words that changed history and brought hope to humanity.  That’s the message of Christmas. God with us, full of grace and truth. And no one on earth is too far from His love. No one beyond His reach. He’s at work in your life, even in the midst of the chaos, and promises to bring you through.  Louie Giglio
