I am a huge fan of Kim Walker Smith. I love her voice and her style but most importantly I love how true worship pours out of her. I had the privilege of seeing her worship lead and speak at a conference about 8 years ago and I was delighted to see that whether she was singing, speaking or just connecting with people who came to the conference, that she was the same person with the same great love for God and His people. Be it on the stage or off the stage she radiated worship.
I love the heart of this song. God invites us, He calls us, to draw near. He invites us to find Him and to find all we need in Him.
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16
Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. Ephesians 3:12
Harry Allen Overstreet says, “The very essence of all power to influence lies in getting the other person to participate.”
Harry S. Truman says “Men make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.”
As christians I believe we are meant to be the influencers. We are called to make our mark on history – we are called to know God and make Him known.

I’m not afraid.
I’m not afraid.
Show me your glory.
I’m not afraid because Hebrews 4 encourages me to come boldly to the throne of God, where I will find grace in my time of need. In my weakness I can come. In my failing, I can come. In my sin, I can come.
I can come because Jesus has washed me clean and made me whole. His death opens the door and tore the veil.
I’m not afraid because I am invited and accepted.
I’ve said before that my church is called The River so any song about rivers captures my eye immediately.
This new song by Jesus Culture, appearing on their new album, is fun, upbeat and one you definitely want as an earworm! Loving the acoustic version too!
It’s lyrics are a powerful reminder to me as to what God’s call is, to set the captives free, to preach good news, to know God and make Him known!
“God guarantees that His Word will not return void. He doesn’t guarantee that the return will be immediate. Keep sowing.” – Steven Furtick
I posted this quote on facebook the other day and then was bemused to get a spam email that said the following:
Claire, how are you growing? Plan ahead to make sure everything flourishes Just like your garden, in life it pays to plan ahead so that everything comes to fruition.
The email is about life insurance or trusts or something like that but it caught my attention and rumbled around in my head for the rest of the day.
How am I growing?
What am I dreaming for?
What am I expecting?
What plans can I put in place to see the seeds of my dream grow?
We can often live in tomorrowland though. Looking forward into the future towards greater things.
It’s important to remember that the harvest we reap in the tomorrow was planned and planted today.
Kim Walker Smith, lead singer of Jesus Culture says “In the future you will walk out in the fruit of your faithfulness.”
The flourishing of our future begins with flourishing where we are planted TODAY. Future flourishing is contingent on present flourishing.
Today are you growing?
Are you feeding yourself and practicing good self care so that you will run a long race, not a short race?
Are you learning and developing new skills to prepare you for the next level?
Are you dreaming of greater things and allowing that to enlarge your heart?
Are you walking with Jesus today, drawing close, seeking His ways and His will?
Are you being the type of leader you want to be in the future NOW? We can’t wait until “we make it” to be it, we must be it first here and now.
So, how are you growing?
There are some songs that just need to be heard.
Like this one.
Listen to it.
And then repeat.
Nothing can separate us from His love.
He has done it all.
His love is freely given.
Oh how our hearts so need to hear this.
We are loved.
No matter what.
I love this song. It so lifts Jesus up. I believe worship isnt about how we feel or how it makes us feel but its about honouring Jesus and declaring who He is and giving the glory and worship that He is worthy. We worship because He is worthy.
When we worship Him something happens. It happens inside us and it happens to the world around us. Worship reminds our heart of the truth of how good and great God is, that nothing is impossible for Him. It helps us to fix our eyes upon Him and remember His promises.
There is no other name but Jesus. No name with such power. No name that can bring such transformation or salvation.
today, what promise do you need to remember?
Lord Jesus, we long for You. We need You so.
Kim Walker-Smith, worship leader of Jesus Culture had a revelation while watching Lady Gaga on tv: “We as Christians, are not the only ones looking for ways to influence society…”
Isn’t that so the truth. The world out there is promoting its message and having its say. It holds up its ideal and preaches its own gospel of self.
But we are called to counter that with the truth and reality of God.
Kim Walker-Smith goes on to say: “But if we could deepen our intimacy with Jesus, if we could move with Him and learn His heart for this world, we could be unstoppable! To love with His love and to see with His eyes, to walk within the parameters of His divine Word…..that leads us into a freedom like no other. He alone can answer that cry in our hearts for freedom and He wants to do it in every heart. We weren’t designed to do it alone. God not only promises to be with us always, but also refers to us as one body-the Body of Christ. Part of His excellent plan is for us to be partnered with each other. The condition of this world should only inspire us to get our game face on! We must understand that we are not the only ones out there who want to influence hearts and minds. We must “seek first His Kingdom… and everything else will be added” unto us (Matthew 6:33). He has a plan.”
how would you define influence?
