Christine Caine posted on fb recently “I encourage you today to embrace the change necessary in order to grow into the success that God has prepared for you. God calls us to step up and into His promises and purposes, and He will give you the grace to run your race.” ~ Christine Caine

We have to be aware of our weaknesses and be prepared to grow and deal with our stuff.  We all have stuff.  We all have flaws.   We waste an enormous amount of energy trying to cover up our sins, our hurts, our hang-ups, and our defects. If we spent as much time being honest about what’s not right in our life as we do covering it up, we’d have a lot more energy for what is right in our life.

The thing about weaknesses is that we often on our strengths but leave ourselves vulnerable to attack, or to falling over in that area.  During WW2 Singapore was a very powerful military base.  With a seemingly impenetrable jungle behind it they focused all their defences towards the sea.  However the city was conquered, not by sea but by the Japanese who cut a single track bicycle track through the jungle.

The battle for sin starts in our mind, not in our behaviour. The way we think determines the way we feel, and the way we feel determines the way we act. If we want to change the way we act, we start by changing the way you think and feel by aligning it to the Word of God.

This is the beauty of the call of God, that he chooses to do extraordinary things with ordinary people, with broken people, with messy people.  He uses rescued people to rescue people.  That takes courage in itself, to be open to God.  We know He sees all and knows all but how many of us like to pretend that that there are places in our heart that He cannot see?  Or is that just me? We have a responsibility to not stay the same, to not hide from ourselves but to be honest and to let God into those places.

God uses change to change us. He doesn’t use it to destroy us or to distract us, but to coax us to the next level of character, experience, compassion and destiny!   God uses change to transform us so we can live a best life and have relationshi8ps that flourish and can make the most of the opportunities that come our way.

I remember a powerful encounter I had with God at a camp when I was a teenager.  I spent most of the Saturday on the floor,  even between sessions and had to be carried to bed, where appartently I laughed in my sleep for about 45 minutes.   During that time God revealed to me 3 things that He was going to work on the following year.  Painful things.  Confronting things.  Sacred cow things.

It was one of the most difficult years I’ve faced.  I didn’t always get it right and let God into those spaces and I learned some very very hard lessons.

If we’re going to win in 2017 and do the things that God has called us to do we have to surrender and think differently.  He is gracious, faithful and kind but loves us too and the world we are meant to influence too much to leave us as we are.

What leads to significant personal change?

  • 10,000 moments of personal insight and conviction
  • 10,000 moments of intentional thinking, renewing the mind
  • 10,000 moments of sin confessed and sin forsaken
  • 10,000 moments of courageous faith
  • 10,000 moments of making the choice to obey
  • 10,000 times of forsaking the kingdom of self and running toward the kingdom of God

And what makes all of this possible?

Jesus.  The answer is always Jesus. You see, Jesus is Emmanuel not just because he came to earth, not just at Christmas, but because he makes each one of us the place where he dwells. This means he is present and active in all the everyday moments of our daily life.

He is what makes change possible.  He empowers us to make the wise choices and gives us a fresh start every day.

Being set free and walking in freedom are not the same. The first was done for us by Jesus, but the second we must choose to do ourselves in His strength and by His grace.

Everyday moments of change begin with that decision and resolve that I will live for Jesus, I will serve the Lord.

That baseline – that heart attitude – then filters down into our actions and behaviour.

The start of a year is a great time to examine our hearts – to look at our attitudes and to pray as David did in Psalm 26 Test me, LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind;

If we want to really live and do all we are meant to do this year we have to embrace change and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, out of the boat, up the mountain, into adventure.

God is calling you to have courage.  He is calling you to step up and step out and make a difference.  He has created you for adventures with Him.  He has created you to shine in the darkness of this world.  He has called you to be different.  He has called you to know Him and make Him known.  To do this you need courage, you need to stir yourself up with His promises and with the stories of people doing amazing things.   You need to live a life that holds fast to what it means to be God’s friend, to chop the wood now so that when the fire falls, when the opportunity comes, when the roller coaster of your life takes off at 0-100 km per hour that you are ready and you need to know that God is good and great.

Life is more than breathing, you are on mission.  It might seem like mission impossible but with God He says IM POSSIBLE.  It’s time to lift our vision and to stretch out into the more that God dreams for your life….
