*** notes taken at church this morning – pastor peter morton preaching a challenging message on “being offended”

Jesus answered: ‘Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, “I am the Messiah,” and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumours of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth-pains.‘Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.  Matthew 24:4-13

Do everything from love
Lovers will out perform workers every time – mike bickle

When we get out if love we get into obligation and law

You cant do Christianity without love

Wickedness and lawlessness will increase
No regard for anyone else
Sometimes when we’re offended we then get into lawlessness
Offense kills our love

Six ways offense happens

1 being hurt by the church
Jesus is perfect but his church is not… Yet
many will come in the last day and say I am christ… And lead people astray
Offense is a spiritual climate
Offence is a choice
We invite it and keep it
The devil tricks us into feeling offense when we’re hurt, its his medicine for his pain
We want the gospel – the best medicine. Love, joy, peace.
Reconnect with love, joy, peace – Holy Spirit

2 hurt through conflict
Wars and rumours of wars
Families, work, friendships etc
Resolve to NOT get offended
When we’re offended we wait for peace to come to us but we must take peace to others and be peace takers
When we’re offended we hide our light

3 hurt by suffering
Famines, disease
Job – jobs wife suffered the same as job but her response was curse God and die, but jobs response was though he slay me, yet I will trust him
Refuse to get offended at God when suffering happens
Let your hurt drive you to God not away from him
When the storm comes, Gods children run home

4 hurt through persecution
Acts 4

5 hurt through betrayal
David refuse to let his heart get offended
Don’t hand your destiny over to someone else by offense

6 hurt through promises that didn’t come to pass
If it matters to you that you need attention for your gift, you ate setting yourself up.for offense
Be the gift.
You don’t need a title
