"God guarantees that His Word will not return void. He doesn’t guarantee that the return will be immediate. Keep sowing." – Steven Furtick

i posted the above quote on our housegoup fb wall the other day.

funnily i then got this email: from public life trust aka some spam

Claire, how are you growing? Plan ahead to make sure everything flourishes Just like your garden, in life it pays to plan ahead so that everything comes to fruition.

the email is about life insurance or trusts or something like that – i wasn’t overly interested but that first line had caught my eye. it lined up with what our awesome mums group leader had shared this morning (though i wasn’t there, we were talking about it later) from 2 corinthians 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

isn’t that cool.

God is so good.  He is so gracious.  Abounding in love and mercy.

and He makes all grace abound to us, at all times, in all seasons, no matter what.

we’ve got to keep sowing.

we’ve got to keep planting.

we’ve got to keep watering.

we’ve got to keep walking forward.

"in the future you will walk out in the fruit of your faithfulness"  kim walker smith

there are times when sowing is hard.  when ministry is hard.  when life is hard.  when you’re pressed on all sides.

in those times we so need to know the love and grace and peace of God.

we need His comfort and hope.

we need to know that He is at work, always, and will make ALL grace abound to you, so that in ALL things, at ALL times, you will have ALL you need so you can abound in every good work.  He is able to accomplish His Word.  He is able to accomplish His promises.  He is able to accomplish His call.

so, how are you growing?

"its hard to fight for something you’re not passionate about." Kim walker-smith (Jesus Culture)

get a revelation of God’s love for you and get passionate about Him and living for Him and then fight against all the crud trying to distract and diswade you from following Him…

what keeps us on the narrow road and obeying jesus?  knowing His love and grace and loving Him in return.

what keeps us choosing to follow Him every day?   knowing His love and grace and loving Him in return.

what keeps us pursuing holiness instead of satisfying the desires of our flesh?  knowing His love and grace and loving Him in return.

what keeps us pure? knowing His love and grace and loving Him in return.

what keeps us wanting to know Him more? knowing His love and grace and loving Him in return.

what keeps us pushing and transforming? knowing His love and grace and loving Him in return.

Jesus says “if you love me you’ll obey me” john 14:23

what keeps us fighting and choosing Him and His ways above the world and ourselves is that passion fueled by the revelation that He loves us and saves us and gave His life for us, dying on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin.

make knowing God your priority.

make it your passion.

be so in love with Him that nothing can shake you.

finding your devo time hard, stuck in Leviticus?

KEEP GOING and KEEP COMING BEFORE GOD – keep being faithful and storing His Word in your spirit – because one day you’ll walk out in the fruit of your faithfulness…..

as we draw near to God, he draws near to us, this is his promise – James 4:8

sometimes we can feel our quiet times, our personal devotional time, that it doesn’t have any significance.  we come and read the Word, we come and pray and worship and talk to God but sometimes it doesn’t feel like we’re connecting much.  sometimes we really feel His presence and encounter Him and He speaks, but other times it can seem like He is silent and that we’re just reading and not being transformed spiritually.

We live by faith though, not feelings, not by sight.

each time we come and spend time with God matters, for us and to Him.

as we are faithful our relationship with Him grows.

one day we will walk and live out the fruit of our faithfulness.  we will live in the fruit that comes from spending time in the Word, in spending time in prayer, in spending time in worship.

our quiet times are not waste times, they’re not dead space.

when He speaks something comes alive in us – His Words bring life to our spirit.  They water our soul.  They satisfy our heart.  They bring strength and hope to our lives.  They guide us and help us to navigate temptation and the war waging in our flesh.

God is speaking always in our quiet times, and in a way – its like our spirit IS receiving His word in even the “dull times” and the times when He seems quiet and there is no great revelation and no great power.

don’t give up.

don’t give up.

don’t give up.

the time you spend with God matters.

and it matters because HE loves to have that time with YOU.

you are His beloved child.

He delights in YOUR presence, as a Father delights in their child.

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16

In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. Ephesians 3:12

i LOVE this song.  i keep hearing it on life FM and going “what is this song cos i love it!?!” and then they say, matt readman 1000 reasons and i’m like, of course.  every time.  but i LOVE this version maybe even more – kim walker-smith from Jesus Culture

Your blood makes the deaf to hear right now
Your blood takes away the curse right now
Your blood heals every disease right now
Your blood sets the addict free right now
And I still believe You’re the same yesterday, today and forever
And I still believe Your blood is sufficient for me
Your blood mends the broken heart right now
Your blood compels me to forgive right now
Your blood transforms my mind right now
Your blood brings the dead to life right now
And I still believe You’re the same yesterday, today and forever
And I still believe Your blood is sufficient for me
[x2]
You’re the higher power
Darkness cannot stand
No longer bound to sin, I am free

Our Father all of heaven roars Your name
Sing louder let this place erupt with praise
Can you hear it the sound of heaven touching earth
The sound of heaven touching earth
Spirit break out
Break our walls down
Spirit break out
Heaven come down
King Jesus You’re the name we’re lifting high
Your glory shaking up the earth and skies
Revival we want to see Your kingdom here
We want to see Your kingdom here

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.  Proverbs 16:3

In his heart a man plans his course,  but the Lord determines his steps.  Proverbs 16:9

There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. Proverbs 19:25

don’t we all want to know who we’re called to be and what we’re called to do?

isn’t that the big question of our heart?

"The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you figure out why." Mark Twain

i believe the key to discovering why we’re on this planet, why we’re alive, what our purpose is, begins in knowing God and hearing His call.  and it is outworked by obedience and following Him, by being in step with the Holy Spirit and trusting God in the process.

letting God determine our steps means we are living a surrendered life – listening for His will and laying down our own fleshly desires.  for me it means that i follow HIS road map, not my own.  i may think the best way is the straight line between two points but God may have a different route to programme into my life’ GPS.  letting Him determine my steps also means that i choose to see things from His perspective.  what can seem like a delay to me may be the training ground for promotion, like how Joseph, Joshua and Ruth experienced?

If I believe God is directing my paths, then…

every moment is divinely orchestrated.

every moment is strategic.

every moment is God-directed.

If you knew that this moment was a divine moment, how would you live differently? If you knew this was an as-it-turned-out, God-directed moment, how would you respond?  Craig Owens

Maybe the long way round is the right way round for the journey of our lives?

as humans its like we’re hardwired to want to go from A to B the shortest way possible. but sometimes that isn’t the best route to go. sometimes we need to take detours and go the scenic route. its better for our character and our strength and our relationship with God.

God KNOWS the right way we should go. we should entrust our lives to Him – commit our ways to Him and He will order our steps.

Choosing the right path begins with SUBMISSION, not information, not even direction.  submission specially to the One who knows where each path leads, as well as where it doesn’t lead.  Submission to the One who knows what’s best for you better than you know what’s best for you.  Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;  in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5-6  Notice he doesn’t say “most of your ways.”  he said ALL.  Solomon didn’t leave any wiggle room.  in all your ways means in all your dating ways, in all your marriage ways, your entertaining ways, your morality ways, your educational ways, your professional ways, your financial ways.  he wasn’t just peaking of your sunday ways, your religious ways, your prayer ways.  all means all.  in every arena of your life, we are to acknowledge God.  so what does that mean? to acknowledge god means to recognize who he is and respond accordingly.  what is the proper response to God? submission.  we are to recognize god’s authority over every component of our lives.  we are to seek and submit to his will in every area of life.  that is, in al our ways.  Andy Stanley – Principal of the Path

"I can promise you God has more than enough for every one of us if we just let him direct our steps." – James Robison

"In the pursuit of following Him, He brought my destiny to me. I didn’t have to chase my destiny. It came. My eyes fixed on Him, walking to Him and He aligns my steps" Kim Walker Smith

When we love God and fix our eyes on Him, He orders our steps into the plans and purposes that He has for us. His promise is to complete the good work He has started!   i can be CONFIDENT in His goodness and ablenes and faithfulness!

i can be confident that as i keep my eyes upon Him that He will direct my steps.  That means wherever i walk, be it the mountain top, beside still waters, in the valley, that God is with me and leading me for His glory sake.  There is always a purpose for where i am and what i am walking through.  Though the terrain may be difficult and painful i can commit my way to God and keep trusting.  He is always faithful.  It is impossible for Him to forget me, loose track of me or forsake me.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. NIV

When you cross deep rivers,  I will be with you, and you won’t drown. When you walk through fire,  you won’t be burned or scorched by the flames.  CEV

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you. AMP

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you. NKJV

Isaiah 43:2

it is so good to know that God has my life in His hands and that His promise is that He will complete the good work He has begun.  I can have confidence in His guidance and leading.  Today i am His.  Today i choose to follow Him.

a few weeks ago i talked about identity at housegroup and how we have to know what God says about us and secure our identity upon that… and while speaking felt nudged to play this above song as a closer.  now our housegroup is predominantly made up of >20 yr old guys.  like guy guys not hipster guys.  and HOW HE LOVES US is an amazing worship song, but very poetic and not the usual song i would play.  but i felt the nudge.  so we played it, asking God to reveal His love, to speak His identity and value into our hearts.  i was amazed to look up and see a new person, female, in the corner, weeping.  oh how He loves HER.

You will come like the rain

come Holy Spirit

Try praying this prayer in the midst of your struggles today, "God, I love you. I don’t love this situation. But I love you. Therefore, I have everything I need to keep putting one foot in front of the other and walk through until I get to the other side of this.” @ lysa terkeurst

You will come, like the rain, today

whatever i face, You are here

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me
