Scars you refuse to hide can become lighthouses that warn other people who are headed to the same rocks you crashed on. jon acuff
my son has a lot of scars. its not that he’s accident prone, but that he is active.
he has a round scar the size of a coke bottle lid on his stomach, where he crashed off his scooter and somehow landed on the handle bar.
he has a chunk out of his leg where he had an altercation with an escalator. while out with his granny.
when he was 6 he had 4 of his top baby teeth knocked out when he ran into another boys shoulder at school. he had the biggest gap for SUCH A LONG TIME.
he has a few small spotty chicken pox scars from when he had it so terribly at the end of last year. now that was a story and a half.
we had to make a rule that you ride your bike/skateboard/scooter wearing clothes and shoes. he had a graze from his forehead to his toes after one accident. no tshirt. ouch.
i know all his scars. i know the stories behind them.
likewise,
God knows our scars.
and the stories behind them.
He washed out the wounds, even when it hurts.
He cares for us.
and those scars, those stories?
they can have glory about them. glory to God who cares for us and comforts us.
they say, “ive been there, i know, i feel it too” to someone who has the same scar.
they demonstrate the love and grace of God
Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. For he wounds, but he also binds up; he injures, but his hands also heal. Job 5: 17-18
