tony and i were just reminiscing about how he proposed, the conversation triggered by a news segment about over the top proposals.
his proposal was perfect and simple.
and it led to us joining our lives together, building something new and organic, forming a family, growing and continuously joining
love is a choice
and every day we choose to love each other
to overlook
to extend grace
to seek the best
to give and serve
in our involvement with young adults in our church we often talk about relationships and are often a go-to person at every stage
as they fall in like
as they make decisions about how to move forward or move backwards
as they take the next step
as they join their lives together
its one of our greatest joys, and greatest consternations
we see the heart living and the heart breaking
because what is joined must be built for a lifetime, united, strong, grace-filled, forever lasting, life giving
my life and my future is joined with his
our children are a blend of us both
(and oh how they are so like us in so many ways and so alike just one of us in so many ways)
day by day, the choice is to join with each other in this adventure of life
joined by God
for His purpose and glory

Five Minute Friday is a feature over at Lisa-Jo Bakers TALES FROM A GYPSY MAMA blog. i first read about it on my friend Fee’s blog and thought it sounded fun!
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..
OK, are you ready?

Visiting from Five Minute Friday.
I love proposal stories. My own is a mixture of happiness and sadness, just like most marriages. It was an emotional roller-coaster of a day, one that neither of us could have ever predicted, but one that God orchestrated in such a way that it brought us closer together, even more so than the simple proposal my husband planned would have.

It truly is a mystery. How we can be separate and single and then joined and forever one. Beautiful.

What a wonderful tribute to your marriage. The photo is a wonderful way to lead into the essay. The thought that we need to “overlook” in order to have a strong marriage is so true.

Thankful for examples like you in my life! I am in a young adult group and treasure the advice and direction of those who have already walked this stage and demonstrate a joined life in their marriage. Thank you!

its one of our favourite photos – when i awoke to the day it was POURING and POURED all day long – the photos dont show it – excpet for the umbrellas, but the wedding video does, makes me laugh all the time. and really it reminds me, the days of rain dont need to touch my joy.
thanks so much for commenting!

it so is… and i love the mystery that when we “join together” and make kids what a blend and how distinct they can also be. my son has so many attitubutes like my husband and my daughter is like a mini me… yet they are also so their own person. true mystery!

“Joined by God. For His purpose and His glory”…If we all looked at our marriages this way our world would be very different. I know that God has a purpose and a plan for me but I wonder if we truly understand that He has a purpose and a plan for our marriage. That’s just deep! Ok, so that wasn’t very eloquent but it’s all I can come up with to describe what I’m thinking. Beautiful picture, beautiful post! Visiting from Lisa Jo’s and so glad I did!

hi diana, thanks for popping by and for your comment! i love that about God having a purpose for our marriage – i think He so does – not just an individual tailored plan but a couple plan and a family plan ! i think thats why its so important who we JOIN our lives to – its such a big decision, a life long decision! blessings, claire
