When it is a matter of our preferences vs His Way and His will we often bow down to the altar of self. steven furtick
God’s Word is the highest authority. Not our feelings. Not our preferences.
Having a BUT GOD’S WORD SAYS in our minds, hearts and spirits aligns us with what God is saying, what the truth of the matter is. Having a BUT counters the lie of the flesh and the lie of the enemy. Having a BUT counters the lie of doubt and fear and sin and insecurity. Having a BUT counters circumstance and temptation. The BUT reminds us who we are and who we belong to and who we live our lives to please and honour.
BUT GOD’S WORD SAYS is the rock we build our life on.
BUT GOD’S WORD SAYS when i am tempted there is a way out and i can withstand it.
BUT GOD’S WORD SAYS when i am lonely that God is with me.
BUT GOD’S WORD SAYS when i am struggling in trial that fire and flood will not overcome me.
BUT GOD’S WORD SAYS when i am weary and worried that i can cast my cares on Him and find rest.
BUT GOD’S WORD SAYS when I am weak I am strong.
BUT GOD’S WORD SAYS that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
BUT GOD’S WORD SAYS I am empowered and filled with the Holy Spirit.
Have you ever struggled with letting a circumstance that came your way recently, suddenly define you? This seems to be a lesson God lets me live over and over. He wants to be my only definition of who I am. I am a child of God, holy and dearly loved. I know this. I teach this. I believe this in the very depths of my soul. Yet, it is so easy for me to slip into redefining myself when situations arise. When hard times come and beat against our stability, we must be determined to hear God’s words and put them into practice. Then nothing can topple our peace, security, or true identity. Yesssss! This is sooo good and so true! When we are feeling discouraged or faced with trials, or everyday, we’ve got to find ourselves rooted in the word and confessing the word of God daily and surrounding our lives with what he says.
I just returned from the Winter Ramp youth conference in Georgia in the states and while I was there soaking, God told me that I needed to start writing down confessions of his word with scripture and saying them everyday and when faced with certain situations. Our words are like swords, and his word is life to us.

thats awesome hannah! i love that what you said – i think you’re so right, we’ve got to make the WORD of God LOUDEST in our head and heart – confessing His truth over our life – may sound like brainwashing but in a way it is – RENEWING OUR MIND and washing us with His goodness and greatness and reality. David did it all the time, in the psalms he would say I WILL REMEMBER YOUR GOODNESS, I WILL REMEMBER YOUR MIRACLES and he would remember and confess the good and great things God has done. so many times we bow to our negative emotions, our fears and insecurities instead of remembering WHO God is and what He says about who He is and who we are – loved, cherished, called, chosen, forgiven, cleansed, accepted, empowered!
