our church is making an intentional push to teach people, esp the young adults, how to have personal quiet times with God – so how to read the bible regularly, how to pray etc.   in a way it is a forgotten discipline – a forgotten art form :o )
this week i am sharing during the “Devotion Kit” segment of our young adults service.
in this segment we share a “teaching” key (a how to, a why etc) and also something from our own personal time that week – a “one thing” (see tags). we’re also encouraging everyone to have a plan and are sticking with the One Year Bible Plan. i myself actually follow another plan that does the OT throughout the year and the NT twice and Psalms twice. i read 4 chapts a day. and i like this plan because of its NT twice reading. it is something that has grown with discipline and practice.
i think i am going to share the top reasons as to why I read my bible regularly (i put that instead of every day because that gives grace to miss a day, and not feel like you’ve stuffed it up, are a failure at doing it and go eat worms type thing)
i read my bible:

1 – know God – relational, personal

2 – know God – know WHO he is – know his promises and ways which builds faith and trust – cos if you know his promises you know what is promised – and so thus you can stir your faith and stand upon his Word and also reach out and pray according to his Word

3 – hebrews 11:6 God rewards those who diligently seek him – and to me the great reward is himself!

4 – offensive and defensive weapon – we are told in ephesians 6 to take up our sheild of faith and to weild the sword which is the Word of God. faith comes by hearing (and reading and absorbing and learning) the Word of God – so our sheild grows, develops and is activated when we read the Bible. and of course we also then are able to provide right, and anointed answers about who God is as we become more and more familiar in His Word. (and the wording doesnt sound kosher here but that is okay for now) i think it is better to know more about OUR God than the opposers (i got confronted by a hare krishna as a brand new christian and she knew “more” from the bible than i did – though it was warped) and so i resolved to know my bible, to have an answer for those who questioned my God… (make sense???)

The faithfulness of God amazes me, takes my breath away. even when we deny him in our heart and actions he accepts and loves us and draws us with kindness to repentance and renewal again. his love is faithful and everlasting. even when we fall he is there to heal and pick us up. he calls us to greater glory and works in our lives to complete his good work. he is faithful always. we can be sure and confident that he will be always with us and forever loving us.

i love that God is I AM – this is the name he revealed to Moses to say who he was when Moses went back to the Hebrews to talk freedom adn deliverance. It for me says I AM WHO I AM – and that we can then trust God to BE who he says he is, to act totally in accordance with his character and to his word.

Exodus 3:13-14 13 But Moses protested, “If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they will ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?” 14 God replied to Moses, “I Am Who I Am.[d] Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you.” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh,[e] the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you. This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations.

the super coolest thing is that I AM is and was recognised as the supremem holy name of God and Jesus called himself that too – several tiems! He decalred many times that he was the I AM!

John 8:58 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I Am!

isnt that wow and amazing and awesome!

that is who i worship, the one true God!

the I AM

in Him i trust
