“You yourself must endure the painful process of change. There is more at work here than your instant maturity. God wants to build a relationship with you that is based on faith and trust and not on glamorous miracles. God uses the disappointments, disillusionments and failures of your life to take your trust away from yourself and help you put your trust in Him.
You do not see with the eyes of eternity. God knows everything. Nothing happens without his consent. You are upset by small losses, but do not see eternal gains!”
This so resounds with me as “yip that is a truth” – God could zap us to perfection in an instand – but he uses hte process and ups and downs of life to shape and mature us.
He doesnt use glamerous miracles ALL the tiem – I do think he does SOMETIMES – to transform us.
Transformation is a day by day process. It is wrought in the relationships we have – our workmates, our family, our kids, our friends, bad drivers, bad customer srvice operators, kind shop assistants, generous teachers… you get me… in the good and bad we meet each day God can transform us.
He uses good people to inspire us and encourage us and model to us a new attitude and a better way.
He uses people that might have some abrasive qualities to rub off our own abrasiveness! How we react is all part of the transformation.
He uses our hopes and fears and dreams and realities to transform us into teh image of Jesus.
We should be conscious as we go through ur day that we arent just breathing – but we are living, and living iwth a purpose – both to know God and make Him known, but to be transformed. In each day there may be opportunities to learn. There may be opportunties to suffer. There may be opportunities to lay down your right and will for the glory and purposes of God. Are we aware of them? Or do we just allow ourselves to react and then go “whoops sorry” afterwards…?
Why is God so intersted in transforming us to look like Jesus? Why is He so intersted in us changing and maturing?
Because as we look more like Jesus people will see the family resemblance – see the good works we do and praise our Father – and be attracted to Jesus in us – and want to know Him for themseuves unto salvation.
Billy Graham once said that we – christians – are the first bible many people read. We are the demonstration and expression of God on earth at the moment. Just as Jesus DWELLED with mankind, becoming flesh, we are the flesh he displays now. God lives within us – the Holy Spirit lives within us. I want to be the best demonstration and expression of God i can – so i open my heart to allow God to make me more look like part of family…
